After spending more than a decade working at great agencies in Johannesburg and London, Deon became a freelance copywriter and accidentally started an agency. It was Nando’s fault. A six-week freelance gig on a tiny piece of Nando’s business got him noticed and, four years ago, he founded a copy agency when people started calling him the voice of the brand. Deon and his six-strong copy agency in Johannesburg do work for Nando’s in the UK, South Africa, Australia, Canada and America, even though he stopped reading the American papers after they elected the short-fingered demagogue. Famous Copy is also agency to challenger investment brand Sygnia plus some other clients they'll never win a Pencil for. Deon is annoyingly confident about his copy, but dislikes talking about himself. He recently sliced off a sliver of his finger in a G&T accident.
