A free, industry-led night school program for emerging creatives who don't have a college degree.
Through Shift with Google, in partnership with adidas, Diageo and Spotify, and supported by Vice media, D&AD aims to create an accessible space for self-made talent to learn from and connect with the industry, establish a network and find job opportunities. Our Shifters will leave the program ready to apply their thinking and their craft to the design and advertising industry. Meet the class of 2021/22 below, the talent you need.
We will re-open for applications for New York in May 2022. Register below for updates on the next intake.
5 months, 21 Shifters, 3 pitches and 1 Showcase
Our Shifters have embraced five-months of online and in-person learning with over 15 creative agencies, across multiple disciplines from creative direction and design thinking to pitching, strategy and creative thinking. This class of 21 self-made creatives worked with adidas, and Diageo on two real-life creative briefs, as well as a 'brief-in-a-day' challenge with Spotify. They are leaving the programme ready to apply their skills to the industry and here's your opportunity to see what they're made of.
What is D&AD Shift with Google?
You are the thinkers, the doers, sometimes undoers, you ask why and just won't comply, you're the makers, breakers, talkers, shouters, defying all doubters - you keep refining your craft after the six hundredth draft and never ever stop.
We're not pretending this is easy. Shift is an intensive night school for the ambitious, for the wild, for those wanting to disrupt and construct. You'll have access to industry-leading pros at the top of their game, guiding you and like-minded others through real briefs, decoding the industry one byte at a time.
We're challenging you to grow, whilst challenging the industry to shift where it looks for its groundbreakers. We're bridging the gap between raw talent, and the skills vital for the changing world.
You won't just leave Shift with the network of big names and even bigger brands, but the knowledge and tools to navigate the road ahead.

How to apply to Shift New York
This programme is for those wanting to enter the commercial creative industry. Shift will aim to teach you about what types of roles are available to you within Advertising and Design. Applications for Shift New York will re-open in May 2022
You don’t need a pre-existing portfolio to apply for Shift, we want to find out about you, how you think and about your ideas, so be creative. You can share a design, a campaign concept, a piece of artwork, a video, some photographs, lyrics, a story - it’s up to you.
In the application you will be asked to upload a few examples of your work, so make sure you have these to hand.
