D&AD Shift with Google in Sydney is a free, industry-led night school programme for new creatives. If you are over 18 and don't have a degree-level qualification, Shift is for you.
Through Shift, D&AD aims to create an accessible space for self-made talent to learn from and connect with the industry, establish a network and find job opportunities.
The application deadline for Shift Sydney has now passed.
How to apply to Shift Sydney
It takes about 30 minutes to apply for Shift via the form below. Applications are now closed.
You don’t need a pre-existing portfolio to apply for Shift, we want to find out about you, how you think and about your ideas, so be creative. You can share a design, a campaign concept, a piece of artwork, a video, some photographs, lyrics, a story - it’s up to you.
In the application you will be asked to upload three examples of your work, so make sure you have these to hand. This programme is for those wanting to enter the commercial creative industry. Shift will aim to teach you about what types of roles are available to you within Advertising and Design.
Calling all self-taught Indigenous creatives: We understand and are aware that Indigenous Australians are some of the oldest storytellers and we welcome your creativity and knowledge and would love for you to be part of the Shift family.
D&AD Shift with Google acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora nation as the traditional owners of the land where Shift is run, and we pay respects to elders past and present.

5 months, 17 Shifters, 3 pitches and 1 Showcase
Our Shifters have embraced five-months of online and in-person learning with over 15 creative agencies, across multiple disciplines from creative direction and design thinking to pitching, strategy and creative thinking. This class of 17 self-made creatives worked with Google and Kua on two real-life creative briefs, as well as a 'brief-in-a-day' challenge with adidas. They are leaving the program ready to apply their skills to the industry and here's your opportunity to see what they're made of.
Shift stories
Since Shift’s launch in 2016, we have trained 123 creatives in London and New York who have gone on to work in agencies including AKQA, Design Bridge, BBC Creative, Iris and Havas.
