Colin Corcoran

  • Freelance Copywriter
  • United States
  • Member since 2014

During the past 15 years, Colin has been the most consistently awarded, pitch winning and in demand freelance CD/Copywriter across the entire U.S. for over 500 advertising agencies, design studios, interactive shops and directly with brand marketers (in addition to several clients in Canada, London and China).

Despite being independent, he was Lürzer’s Archive Magazine’s #1 ranked U.S.-based copywriter of the decade from 2010-2020. He was also the writer with the most work published in Communication Arts 2016 and 2019 Ad Annuals, along with Graphis’ 2019 and 2020 Ad Annuals (resulting in being named a Graphis Master). Additionally, his work has been recognized with over 300 awards including a D&AD Yellow Pencil in 2017 for Skittles, Graphis Platinum for Dyson in 2021 and by multiple One Shows, One Screen, AICP, Radio Mercurys and Obies.

Despite being an adperson, his writing and/or art direction has also garnered major design accolades: One Show Designs, AIGA 365 (Denver Art Museum Permanent Archives), Cannes, Clio, CA Design + Typography Annuals and Type Directors Clubs.

And despite being over age 40, his diction for digital has appeared in Communication Arts Interactive Annual, FWAs, Davey Awards and The Webbys.

Colin graduated from Brainco – The Minneapolis School of Advertising, Design & Interactive Studies and began his career creating mostly print and outdoor ads at Carmichael Lynch, Fallon, Hunt Adkins and Colle + McVoy. After moves to San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago to round out his portfolio with digital, film and radio, respectively, he’s now based in New York City (Williamsburg Brooklyn to be exact) with a rescue Chinook breed dog named Butterscotch.

He has previously judged The One Show (2021 Outdoor/Print Juror), The Webbys (2016-2021), Radio Mercury Awards (2017-2019), Graphis (2020 New Talent Annual), The Minneapolis Show (2021) and CMYK Magazine twice (issues #36 & #55).
