Ed Sayers

  • United Kingdom

Ed Sayers is an independent director. He started his career as a production company runner in the 1980’s – when reels of film were physically moved around Soho. He worked his way up to producer and made the switch to directing, the first time, in 2000. Then, running the production company Godman from 2003 to 2006, he found himself producing and exec producing again.

An enlightening few years followed, ad agency side, producing unusual work like Pot Noodle The Musical for Mother – an Edinburgh Fringe Festival stage show. During a long stint at Saatchi & Saatchi, as ‘Ed of Stuff’, Ed produced work like T-Mobile ‘Dance’ at Liverpool Street Station and ‘Singalong’ at Trafalgar Square. Whilst at Saatchi, he also directed some multi-camera viral stunt films for golf’s European Tour and then decided to go back to directing full-time. He now represents himself, working with different production companies and agencies on mainly multi-camera event and documentary-style branded filmmaking projects.

In 1999, Ed started the short film challenge, ‘straight 8’, in which people make a 3-minute film on a cartridge of Super8 film with only in-camera editing and no post-production. He has just launched an iOS app-based digital version of the challenge.
