Freda Sack studied typography at Maidstone. Her type design career started at Letraset, where she collaborated with URW, Hamburg on the first digital font applications.

From 1989 she worked on typefaces with David Quay, notably: Yellow Pages directory font (awarded D&AD Silver), British Gas, NatWest, UK Railways and Lisbon Metro, Portugal. In 1990 they started The Foundry to design and produce their own typefaces.

Freda set up Foundry Types in 2000 to manage and develop The Foundry library – covering more families, formats, and languages. Foundry Types font commissions include Swiss International Airlines, NatWest, More Than, the Science Museum and World Wildlife Fund.

Awarded an Honorary MA by University of the Creative Arts (UCA), she is also on their Board of Governors. As a longstanding board member and ISTD director (International Society of Typographic Designers), Freda is dedicated to promoting typography. She is an education advisor and enjoys mentoring and lecturing.
