Winning D&AD Next is a mark of great potential. Put simply, there's no better way to build your industry profile. Winners will receive their name and work in the D&AD Annual, private mentoring, training and a coveted, career-changing D&AD Pencil.

Categories

Next Creative

For creatives with no more than three years of industry experience. Open to art directors, copywriters and creatives working across digital marketing, experiential, media, PR, outdoor, audio, film and entertainment.

Next Designer

For designers with no more than three years of industry experience. Open to anyone involved with branding, packaging, products, graphics, publications and permanent, temporary or online environments.

Next Director

For directors with no more than three years of industry experience. Open to directors of film, entertainment, TV, VoD, online content, promotional content and music.

Next Illustrator

For illustrators with no more than three years of industry experience. Open to illustrators of posters, press adverts, packaging, publications, street art, installations, signage, moving image and digital work.

Next Photographer

For photographers with no more than three years of industry experience. Open to photographers producing commercial pieces including portraits, documentary, composited and staged images.

  • What is it?

    In the loud and lively creative sector, it can be hard to hear over the commotion. D&AD Next serves to amplify the industry’s emerging voices.

    The D&AD Next Pencil is awarded to rising stars with extraordinary creative flair who are shaping the future of creativity and craft.

    Anyone with less than 3 years experience creating commercial pieces in their chosen category can enter. Next is supported by the AOI, Illustrators Ireland, Pitch Magazine and The Smalls.

  • What are the judges looking for?
    • Does it show remarkable creative flair?
    • Does it demonstrate great potential?
    • Where applicable, is there outstanding use of craft and technique?

    They are not looking for the finished article.

    If entering as a team, all team members must have contributed to the work in a manner appropriate to the category.

  • How to enter

    You may enter your own work, or on behalf of someone else. You can enter as an individual, or as part of a team. There's no age limit, however, the Talent must not have an established career in a different area of the creative industry.

    You will need to submit 4 projects, including a statement of the Talent’s contribution to each. Entrants into Next Director only need to submit 2. In all cases, each piece of work must represent one project; multiple executions of the same project will be classed as one piece of work. 

    At least one piece must be commercially released. Remaining work may be commercially released, unreleased or self-initiated. If you do not have enough personal work, you are invited to complete a New Blood brief.
