I had the honor to commemorate hip hop’s 50th anniversary by combining the iconic Rappers Delight with some of the most impactful hip hop MCs, making something so familiar feel new. I wanted to pay homage to the culture that gave me so much while maintaining the authenticity each artist is known for. I sought to make the energy feel like a cypher or a posse cut, emphasizing that natural ebb and flow between artists. Each section shifted the original song sonically into something that feels more tied to the artist's sound to show how hip hop has evolved since Rappers Delight was released.
