It’s 2022 and period poverty still exists. In the US, nearly one in four people who menstruate struggle to access period products and over 80% of teens polled have missed school because of their period. Despite the problem, there is no major federal funding, forcing millions of families to choose between putting food on the table or buying period products. As a solution, 72andSunny New York launched Loopholes, a fictional cereal brand where the prize in each box is a cycle’s worth of products. Loopholes aimed to put period poverty on people’s radar and encouraged people to support the Menstrual Equity for All Act.
