ALMA Music Box

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Digital Design / Digital Installations / 2015

To raise awareness of the Atacama Large Millimeter Array telescope, PARTY collaborated with the National Observatory of Japan to create the ALMA Music Box. With radio signal data captured by the telescope from the dying star R Sculptoris, PARTY produced 70 music discs that could be played on a customised music box. The resulting somber melody is a requiem for the star dying 950 light-years away. The project was on display at the prestigious 21_21 Design Sight Museum in Tokyo and was seen by over 22,000 visitors.
