Sunset Overdrive was a brand new franchise that needed to be introduced to gamers. But it's also a unique title, a game that knows it's a game. In keeping with its self-awareness, twofifteenmccann broke the fourth wall of marketing with a hugely cognizant campaign complete with its own self-aware live-action trailer. Just as the game mocks gaming conventions, twofifteenmccann poked fun at games marketing by telling the story of a live-action shoot that should never have been attempted because the game is too dangerous to replicate in real life. Gamers often complain that they'd rather watch gameplay footage than live-action trailers for new games. With this film, twofifteenmccann and Sunset Overdrive slyly subverted gamers' grievances.
