How an ad for J&B Whiskey moved away from the typical macho messaging of whiskey brands

D&AD Judge for the Film Jury category, Nimo Awil selects her favourite entry in this year’s awards, the 2022 J&B Whisky Spanish TV commercial ‘She’. The campaign is a clear move from the typical macho messaging of whisky brands and tackles topical sensitivity around the issue of acceptance that trans, non-binary and LGBTIQA+ communities face.

“It’s a really lovely way to talk about a sensitive thing but in a way that’s going the right way, without shock value,” Nimo says, “It’s just showing the beauty of what happens when you truly celebrate someone.”
