James Day is an internationally renowned photographer working in advertising and editorial. With 4 Yellow Pencils under his belt and a wealth of award-winning work, he returns as Jury President in Photography at D&AD Awards 2019. Here he writes about the merit behind creative awards and how they champion excellence in the creative industry.
Firstly I would like to say how pleased I am that D&AD have decided to give Photography its very own category once again. I must admit that when I was approached to write this piece, my heart did skip a beat. My annoyingly ever-present imposter syndrome kicked straight in and also a vivid flashback to my GCSE English result, which had always led me to believe that my best bet communicating with the world would be through the medium of photography.
