Survive The Drive

Award: Shortlist

Shortlist / Media / Radio & Audio / 2023

Studies show that music has an effect on our driving. Songs at 60-80 beats per minute (BPM) mimic the human heart rate and subconsciously discourage drivers from speeding. The New Zealand Police collaborated with the nation's largest media network to create Survive the Drive – a nationwide radio takeover filled with songs that help drivers slow down. Five national radio stations, all with different genres and listeners, selected songs with a lower BPM so drivers would drop their speed. 1.98 million people tuned in over Easter, resulting in a 6% speed decrease nationwide and 60% less fatal car crashes compared to last year.
