To address inequality and make the outdoors more inclusive, Patagonia united industry leaders including its biggest competitors: The North Face, Adidas Terrex, Vivobarefoot, and Arc’teryx. Together, they set out to reform the industry from top to bottom, getting brands and institutions to commit to change and empowering the people doing the work on the ground. Opening Up the Outdoors (OUTO) was created to unify the different brands and their efforts. The industry-wide not-for-profit initiative is focused on inclusion, education, and enjoyment of outdoor spaces for people of the global majority.
