When off the grid without service, iPhone can now text emergency services via satellite. In an emergency, every second counts, but satellites are moving targets with low bandwidth compared to cellular technology. So iPhone has a custom experience that helps first responders get critical information as quickly as possible. It includes a user interface that helps users stay connected, so that information about the emergency, location, and other essential context can get through to a dispatcher.
