Frieze, a leading contemporary art magazine, was started in 1991 by Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover. The magazine has always prided itself on the standard of its design. In 2012, Atelier Dyakova was commissioned to refresh the look and redefine its contemporary edge. A multi-faceted typographic voice was introduced to create a flexible palette that allows for more expressive opening pages and headlines to respond to the subject matter at hand. Special care went into tactile aspects of the magazine: materials and printing techniques play vital roles in communicating its content.
