Inventive Medical presents HeartWorks, an exceptional teaching tool for all clinicians who care for patients with heart disease. This original computer generated model of the heart presents intracardiac structures with an unprecedented degree of detail and accuracy. Custom developed software produces real-time simulation of ultrasound images from freely determined slices through the model heart. This allows a clear understanding of the correlation between 2D ultrasound images and the underlying cardiac anatomy. The HeartWorks system was devised and developed by a team of three anaesthesiologists from the Heart Hospital in London, who were inspired to produce an accurate model of the heart to facilitate teaching of the practical skill of transesophageal echocardiography during cardiac surgery. Doctors Sue Wright, Andrew Smith and Bruce Martin enlisted the help of a large number of eminent cardiac clinicians and morphologists to create this innovative virtual heart. Work with Glassworks, a leading computer graphics company, has seen the model and echocardiography simulator evolve into a remarkable training instrument.
