Award: Yellow Pencil

Yellow Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Direction / 2008

The idea was to stage a live stop-frame animation shoot on the streets of New York, on a scale rarely attempted before. Hundreds of model bunnies were built in seven different stages of leaping, all on armatures and with the flexibility to move within themselves. A variety of scales were used, including one 30ft high bunny that was part constructed, driven through New York, craned into position and completed on location. The same process was used with a 10ft high, 25ft wide wave which was constructed on multiple dollies so it could be animated through a New York square. At the other end of the scale small plasticine bunnies were animated by hand out of drainpipes and underneath taxis.
