Upper Class Clubhouse at London Heathrow

Award: Yellow Pencil

Yellow Pencil / Environmental Design / Leisure & Tourism / 2007

This spectacular 2,500 square metre clubhouse includes a spa, restaurant and a bar, with interiors that feel like a private members' club. To complete this approach, the in-house team worked with Soho House, the established private members' club, on service design. The capacity of the clubhouse is currently designed to comfortably meet the airline's expected growth until 2011. The architectural objective, that the Clubhouse should be seen as a single flowing 'landscape', was established early on in the project. Arranged across two sculpted floor levels with a series of 'landmarks' and 'vistas', the layout encourages passengers to stroll around and explore their surroundings, echoing the patterns of movement on the ground and in the sky above the airport.
