Water Balloons

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / TV & Cinema Crafts / Direction / 2006

Open on a man throwing a water balloon out the window of a dilapidated apartment complex. Cut to a woman looking out her windowsill getting hit by water balloon. Cut to a posterior shot of group of kids running into courtyard. As they enter the scene, they are ambushed by a group of kids hiding behind a low wall. Cut to shot of a group of adults in street nailing each other with water balloons. An older man sprints for cover as he is peppered by an onslaught of incoming balloons. Cut to kids lobbing balloons in unison off top of stairwell like they’re grenades. A truck drives through the scene, getting hit from all sides with balloons. We see a line of kids on steps handing down balloons like an ammo line, a teen sliding down slickened wall, a little kid taunting throwers from above before he nervously ducks for cover. Cut to shot of team of people launching a sheet full of balloons off the top of building, as it pulls wide we see the balloons coming down amidst the escalating action. Cut to a shot of a large puddle of water as we see reflection of the scene, people running into the fray. Music: Gilbert Russell - “Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ SUPER: Jump In. XBOX 360 Logo Mnemonic
