Woven Type
Woven Type
For the Penguin and Monotype brief, which challenged us to explore the power of typography and its role in helping people reconnect with the written word, we created Woven Type, a modular adaptation of the Dari alphabet designed for embroidery grids. In Afghanistan, where many women are banned from education and access to books, embroidery circles remain accepted spaces. Woven Type translates pages from classic literature and texts written by women into stitchable patterns, transforming traditional embroidery gatherings into hidden reading clubs, allowing stories and knowledge to circulate even where books cannot.
