In a digital world shaped by voice, video, and emotional exchange, it’s surprising that the typography supporting it remains so limited. Today, closed captions are a primary way people read spoken language online - yet they still reduce expressive speech to flat, functional text. AdapTions is a type-led response to the Penguin x Monotype brief: an optional caption mode using AI and a custom variable typeface to translate vocal emotion into typography. Captions stretch, compress, and shift in real time to reflect tone, pace, and intensity - creating a more inclusive, emotional reading experience.
