Axis for Access

Of the 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, 40% are at risk of extinction, and 98% are digitally disadvantaged. When languages are excluded online, it’s not just the words that disappear, but the knowledge, culture, and worldviews they carry. Monotype and Penguin Random House present Axis for Access, an open-source type system that reconnects language to land, generating a custom typeface for every linguistic coordinate. The campaign empowers people to reclaim access for indigenous languages in the digital space.
