Digital reading is now defined by speed, distraction, and surface-level comprehension. As scrolling replaces immersion, readers are losing the tactile cues and intentional pace that support deep engagement with text. How about we learn to read again? Introducing Elementary, an interactive reading environment that restores focus through responsive typography. Inspired by how we first learned to read by tracing words with our fingers, it reintroduces guided motion on screen. Words subtly react to cursor movement, gentle pacing interventions discourage skimming, and customizable fonts enhance personal readability. By transforming motion into a mindful interaction, Elementary turns digital reading into a slower, more present experience for the Monotype x Penguin Random House brief.
