Rollin' Wild 'Safari'

Director's Profile:

Kyra Buschor and Constantin Paeplow are a young directing duo hailing from Switzerland and Germany respectively. They met at the world-renowned Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany and created Rollin' Wild. Since then the series of films has become a YouTube sensation, including the ‘Christmas card’ made in conjunction with Passion, who now represent Kyra and Constantin worldwide.

Background:

The Rollin’ Wild series was originally created as an entry for the world-renowned Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg’s annual open-brief competition to create promos for the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and so had to appeal to both fans and professionals of animation. It won and Meerkats is the latest in the Rollin’ Wild series.

About the Solution:

We asked ourselves; ‘what if animals were round?’ and took inspiration from wildlife documentaries. We wanted the viewer to feel they were observing well-known scenes so the look of the films had to be quite natural, but we didn’t want to make it photo-real as the animals would look a bit creepy. We went for a slightly stylized look with a colour palette that's very close to the real world. Kyra and Constantin
