The Balvenie 50

Award: Graphite Pencil

Graphite Pencil / Packaging Design / Packaging Design / 2013

To symbolise The Balvenie’s 50 years, this special container was handmade by a Scottish craftsman using 49 strips of Scottish timber (Galloway Ash, Borders Oak, Lothian Walnut, Cherry, Yew, Fife Beech, and Banffshire Elm). The fiftieth strip is a brass band, echoing fittings from traditional spirit safes. Inside the container sits a brass plate certificate, and the whiskey, bottled in hand-blown glass, is labelled with production dates, bottle number and malt master David Stewart’s signature.
