Signage for the Musashino Art University Museum & Library

Award: Wood Pencil

Wood Pencil / Graphic Design / Wayfinding & Environmental Graphics / 2011

This is design work for the academic library of an art university. The concept, ‘Forest of Books’ by architect Sousuke Fujimoto was implemented in the library, thus creating a space where visitors are guided by numeric signs to the books they are looking for. The numbers of the signs represent the content of the classification: the number for the industrial category, six, is made from recycled plastic bottle caps painted white, collected from within the school; number nine indicates the literature section, containing many genres and spanning various languages, and so we created the number from lots of smaller nines in different typefaces, in order to show the diversity of literature.
