The Nominate Me Selfie
The Nominate Me Selfie
Women make up half of all grassroots political workers, but are extremely underrepresented in Indian State Parliaments. To progress further up the political ladder, they need to be nominated by party leaders, 90% of whom are men. Shakti & Times of India highlighted this imbalance by taking an accessible concept – the selfie – and turning it into a resumé for women nominees. Female party workers were mobilised across 45,000 villages and bombarded male party leaders with Nominate Me Selfies in the one place they couldn't ignore: their phones. The result was a 25% increase in elected women.
