Hungry Design

Carton boxes are ubiquitous in the packaging and transport of consumer goods. Having collected about 2,000 boxes from socially-conscious retailers, FARM cast the generic carton box in a new light by building with it, to uncover how an unimportant by-product of food packaging can be used to design a zero waste showcase, while bringing together a display that prompts the spontaneous and emotive discovery of a multitude of creative food packaging. After the exhibition, the boxes will be donated or sold to give back to the elderly cardboard collectors, who forage the streets daily for the material.

D&AD Jury

First of all, I believe that today's design should be strongly rooted in society. Design that is detached from society can no longer be called design, can it? In general, the exhibition design has a short life span, which is a big problem, because after the exhibition is over, it is dismantled and immediately turned into rubbish. What's great about this project is that it's designed to be used as a material before, during and after the exhibition, using cardboard boxes that are already in circulation to construct the exhibition and sell them afterwards to raise money for the homeless. This work has given us a great hint to think about a circulation society / economy.
