COLOURFORM™ Ruinart Second Skin

The COLOURFORM Ruinart Second Skin packaging is the result of a three-year collaboration between paper innovator James Cropper, champagne house Maison Ruinart champagne and the team at luxury packaging experts Pusterla 1880. The partnership involved developing a disruptive packaging design that would envelop the Ruinart champagne bottle like a second skin. The 100% recyclable eco-designed casing perfectly married the emblematic silhouette of Ruinart’s signature bottles while preserving the integrity of the taste until the moment the champagne is enjoyed. This pioneering achievement is the fruit of a long-term collective commitment by the teams at COLOURFORM, the champagne house and its partners.

What did the judges have to say?

D&AD Jury

Changing the perception of luxury packaging. Champagne packaged in an egg carton? Or the new face of premium? An innovative solution for a premium segment that challenges category conventions through the use of an innovative and sustainable moulded pulp material developed specifically for the brand. The sleeve form envelopes the iconic bottle shape and snaps close with a completely integrated construction in the material itself, without adding additional material. Good to see a champagne of this class taking the steps to change the perception of what the new, more sustainable premium, can look like.

This entry was one of the greatest examples of how responsible luxury design can be achieved. The material used is kept to a minimum, but the exquisite details and opening experience with the paper snap closure impart the luxuriousness this category is seeking.
