Before it became one of the most controversial movies ever, MTV and Sony Pictures introduced audiences to The Interview. Aligning it with the 2014 Video Music Awards, MTV expanded the film's celebrity exposé premise during a branded programming event. Dave Skylark's Very Special VMA Special featured Seth Rogen and James Franco as their movie alter egos, conducting a series of exclusive interviews with the year's most celebrated VMA artists, including Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Jason DeRulo. Grilling them about everything from derrières to the merits of singing one's name, this special highlighted the sensibility and humour viewers could expect from The Interview, establishing Dave Skylark's character while creating momentum for the 2014 VMA LIVE telecast.
