‘Project Loon’, Google’s initiative bringing WiFi to remote parts of the world using high altitude balloons, debuted in June 2013. To explain the project’s audacious goals, a team at Google created a short film outlining the benefits of the unorthodox technology. Using a technique that combines 2D and 3D animation, the film, which takes its inspiration from the string of a child’s balloon, makes the technology feel approachable, whimsical, and above all, inspiring.
