CensARTship

CensHERship and The Case For Her present CensARTship — a campaign exposing bias in online censorship by turning censored women’s health content into Renaissance art. During the Renaissance, the female body was celebrated as a symbol of beauty, inspiring us to use the artistic freedom of the past to confront the censorship of women’s health today. Leveraging Instagram’s rule allowing nudity in art, removed posts were recreated by female artists as Renaissance paintings and exhibited at Tate Gallery London. Through a global call under #CensARTship on Instagram, creators restored their removed posts as Renaissance art, building a visible archive of censorship.
