The Untranslatables
The Untranslatables is a series of books created for Kinokuniya, each centered on a commonly used Arabic phrase with no direct English equivalent. Each book attempts to unpack the meaning of a single phrase through long-form English writing and illustration, while honoring what remains untranslatable. Each book also has a distinct illustration style, befitting of the meaning of the word in question. As a whole, the series highlights how much meaning the Arabic language carries in a mere few words, encouraging Arabic speakers to reconnect with their mother tongue once again.
