Eurythenes Plasticus

WWF Germany wanted to put a new spin on the old problem of ocean plastics, so that it could generate widespread attention and action. To highlight that our ocean plastic problem goes deep, BBDO Group Germany named a new deep-sea species after the plastic found inside its body: Eurythenes plasticus. Launched in 2020, the integrated campaign made history by making E. plasticus officially part of our planet’s taxonomic record. All touchpoints led people to sign a petition for a legally binding global UN agreement to put an end to marine plastic pollution.
