Baloo

Brief: India isn’t just a country, it’s a melting pot of culture with 22 official languages with above 10 different scripts. The existing set of Indian Type families fall under the utilitarian text category. A multilingual Indic display family is hard to find. Our brief was to provide that solution for design studios, publishers, web designers, ad agencies, bloggers and everyone else. A font that is serious and fun, adds a visual value wherever it’s placed and versatile enough to work across media. Solution & Cultural Context: The necessity for unity in diversity created Baloo, an affable display type family supporting 10 Indic scripts and Latin. A perfect blend of pointy paws in a coat of fur, the typeface is carefree yet confident, warm yet entertaining, sprightly yet intelligible. With distinctively heavy and spurless design and a subtle tinge of playfulness Baloo has the bare necessities of type. Open sourced on Google fonts, Baloo is Unicode compliant and libre licensed, making it free for all across platforms.
