Silo 468

This project saw the conversion of a disused oil silo into a mesmerising light art piece and a public space with the aid of LEDs and natural light. The site sits by the sea in Helsinki, Finland. Prevailing winds have a strong presence. The natural light, wind and the movement of light on water formed the concept. The lightart signifies the start of a major urban redevelopment project and draws focus toan unknown district in the city. Bespoke software controls the lights using swarm intelligence and nature simulating algorithms. The patterns are natural in feel and never repeat.
