The Johnny Cash Project

This project was a global collective artwork. Beginning with a single video frame as a template, and using a custom drawing tool embedded in the site, viewers create their own personal portraits of the Man in Black. Their work is combined with art from participants around the world, and integrated into a collective whole: a crowd-sourced, interactive music video for the song ‘Ain’t No Grave’. Strung together and played in sequence over the song, the portraits create a moving, evolving homage to a beloved musical icon. As people discover and contribute to the project, this living portrait continues to transform and grow.
