Warchild Secret7 Vinyl Sleeve Illustration - 'Playing with Innocence'

The chosen song is 'Merchants of Paradise' by Gregory Porter. The three men at the table are playing cards. They represent the merchants of paradise, who gamble and play with the lives of children when it comes to war. Like the lyrics states, they are ‘sellers of God’s creation’. They take advantage of the fact that children ‘don’t know the games of the gods’. These merchants are profiteers of war, where children are the pawns. The idea is further expressed through the mother of the child as she is looking straight at the viewer with her sad expression. This is a reference to the lyrics ‘Where were you?’. The bright colours of paradise act as a juxtaposition to the true meaning behind the scene, much like the song. It is fun, yet the words are referencing a wider world problem.
