The brief was to design and produce a 30 x 20 - metre free standing contemporary portable building for an event staged at ‘Goodwoods Festival of Speed’. The structure needed to present itself as a museum of modern art. The whole structure was to be white so the form needed to entirely capture that message. The structural integrity was taken as the starting point for generating various approaches to the form. Horizontal patterning has been previously looked at to transfer the stresses from the central truss evenly along the parameter base of the structure, reducding the need for metal trussing by 80 percent. In this case, it was also found that the horizontal patterning left a clear event space.
