The Pacific
The Pacific
This main title sequence for HBO's Second World War mini-series ‘The Pacific’ was inspired by the wartime sketch artists who captured the fighting on the front lines. The sequence features charcoal sketches of portraiture, as if completed in the field. The subjects are the young men whose stories unfold throughout the series, conveying the horrors of the war in the Pacific. Over 60 actual charcoal drawings were created and used as subtle transitions to the footage, which introduces each of the characters. Macro, high-speed photography captures the charcoal drawing process, creating an editorial counterpoint to the portraits.
