The Mediterranean Wound

A giant floating monument to heal indifference toward the thousands of migrants who have died in the Mediterranean Sea, and toward all those who still need medical care after being rescued. The project turned the sea itself into a symbolic wound to be healed, making visible what is usually unseen: the immense loss of human life at the southern Europe borders. The installation, anchored off the coast of Bari, one of the main ports in Italy, was designed as a gigantic floating bandage — a universal symbol of care and recovery.
