Tiny is trendy, even when it comes to soda. People still love cola, they’re just being choiceful about how much. Pepsi’s Mini can was perfectly positioned to seize this moment, but the competition dominated the category. It was time for Pepsi’s short king to take the throne. Knowing cola drinkers love hip-hop, humor and nostalgia, Pepsi flipped the script on the 1995 song “I Wish” with original artist Skee-Lo and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. The new anthem—“I Wish I Was a Little Bit Smaller”—had a simple premise: even someone living as large as Shaq knows Pepsi Mini is just the right size.
