Martin Boyce - No Reflections

This poster was part of a campaign to promote the work of Scottish artist Martin Boyce at the 2009 Venice Biennale. Through a series of sculptures, Boyce set out to echo the labyrinthine nature of Venice, creating a heightened sense of displacement and abandonment in a 15th Century Venetian Palazzo. After discussions with the artist, it was decided that the design should avoid becoming a representation of Boyce’s work, but instead should be derived from aspects of his practice. The designers explored disruptions found when applying the artist’s grid over conventional typography. The stark and fractured design reinforced the notion of displacement, while standing out within the context of a media saturated Venice.
