Indigenous peoples are on the bottom of the ladder in all negative societal metrics. Micro aggressions are already part of the indigenous experience. Our ECD was shocked to be the target of comments when announced he was judging at D&AD. We leveraged off the famous pencil, a global symbol of creative success, to reciprocate the manaakitanga (Māori concept of reciprocity) extended to him by D&AD. Like a trojan horse we have used it to permeate award ceremonies, giving jurors a deeper insight into our world, so indigenous people feel safe and accepted. Introducing the Manaakitanga pencil.
