Modern Belya revives the work of a well known Egyptian calligrapher and artist known for his contribution to the Egyptian cinema and theatre scene in the 1970s and 1980s, including Al-Mahrousa 85 and School of Mischief. He inspired revolutions in modern styles at the time thanks to the beauty, flexibility and variety of his works. The typeface was designed with the calligrapher to ensure none of the essence of his free-hand work was lost.
