Respond2Racism—First-Responder Twitter Bot

In early 2020, racism and xenophobia against Asians spread like wildfire. To combat this hate, volunteers at GS&P launched a nonprofit movement: Respond2Racism. Its first project is a Twitter bot that automatically responds to racism online by educating the haters and empowering allies with tools. The initiative ignited a powerful conversation, with zero dollars spent on media and 87.5 percent of the audience obtaining a better understanding of how their words can fuel bias against Asians. Through a simple hack on Twitter, it effectively communicated that racism demands our response.
