We Will Get Through This Together

This illustration draws inspiration from the Scissor Sisters’ song "Return to Oz" and the film Return to Oz. Both works share a distinct mood, markedly different from the original Wizard of Oz story. While the classic tale is filled with wonder and optimism, the song and film portray a darker, more melancholic narrative centered on losing one’s way to Oz. The song employs images from the film to reflect on social issues and personal loss, connecting the fictional journey to real-world problems. I picked the key visual elements from both the song and the film to recreate a scene of Return to Oz to captures the somber tone of this journey, yet conveys a message of hope: that despite the obstacles we face, we will get through this together and find the way back.
