We Will Become Better

In July 2020, Vladimir Putin changed the Russian constitution to ban same-sex marriage, with 77% of the country’s population supporting the change. The gay propaganda law, which passed in 2013, is also being practised in Russia. It criminalises representations of LGBTQIA+ community and has also encouraged a wave of hate crimes, including beatings, rape and torture. One year after the constitutional change, the film We Will Become Better was released to challenge these offensive portrayals of same-sex relationship.
